Basically Batman versus Superman gave a super clear reaction to what happens if you get triggered by a word.

Martha is the last thing Bruce’s father said before he died, it brings him right back to the moment Bruce’s parents were killed.

Bruce reacts violently to the name actually, and he only stops when Lois tells him that Martha is Clark’s mother. That’s when Bruce realizes Superman is human.

And people don’t seem to understand that Bruce was triggered by the name, and he and Clark did not just become instant friends because their mothers share a name.

This is one of the many reasons I love bvs.  Bruce Wayne is shown on-screen to have many symptoms associated with PTSD, and is one of the most accurate depiction of the disorder in a superhero movie to date.

Everybody: He he Batman is so dumb and he and Supes just went “Your Mom is Martha? My Mom is Martha – WEEE FRIENDS!!”

Me: Dude, no.

The thing here is that it’s not just the name what sets Bruce off – it’s the whole phrase: Save Martha.

Exactly ^^^^ the entire phrase “Save. Martha” played a pivotal role. His father’s dying last words were “Martha”. Bruce’s childhood emphasis was on his mother for a reason. He watched his father attempt and fail to save Martha while they were held at gunpoint, then watched her get shot in the face, and watched her bleed to death in moments next to his father. “Save Martha” was what he couldn’t do as a child. “Save Martha” is what can do now. Simple yet poetic logic.

adding onto that is the fundamental evidence a man like Bats can be stopped with words. Superman was originally lead to believe in the contrary, when in fact one simple word is enough to work wonders.

poetic and beautifully crafted.
